The president of Bolivia announced his country will distribute 20,000 doses of the Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine this Friday, after the shipment arrives from Argentina on Thursday evening.
The first batches will be sent to the departments of Santa Cruz, La Paz, and Cochabamba, which have been the worst-affected parts of the country during the pandemic. According to the government, President Luis Arce will attend a ceremony on Friday to administer the country’s first vaccine.
This morning, Mr. Arce used his Twitter account to discuss a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, in which the pair talked about “cooperation” against the pandemic and negotiations over “affordable vaccines” for Bolivia. China has already helped the South American nation by sending it important health supplies, such as face masks and ventilators.
