At least 102 of 513 representatives and 27 of 81 senators in Brazil have tested positive for Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, according to a survey by news website Poder360.

No party had more infections than the center-right Social Democratic Party (PSD). No less than 22 of its 46 lawmakers (combining both congressional chambers) caught the virus. The only parties to not record a single case were the Green Party (four seats) and Rede (one seat).

Currently, one 87-year-old senator and a 48-year-old congressman are in the hospital battling severe Covid-19 infection — and two lawmakers have recently been sent home by doctors. The senator, José Maranhão, has been in an intensive care unit since December and is currently intubated and sedated.

In October 2020, Senator Arolde de Oliveira died from complications resulting from Covid-19 at 83 years old.
