Brazilian Senate approves digital vaccination card

Senators have approved the creation of a digital vaccination card, ahead of the inclusion of Covid-19 vaccines in the national immunization program. The move seeks to grant more transparency to the entire vaccination process.

The card would include the patient’s entire vaccine history (including pending shots), as well as information provided by labs, such as serial numbers and possible side effects — as well as a notice for follow-up vaccines. This would allow the medicines to be tracked on a website run by the Health Ministry and avoid the loss of valuable information currently stored on paper cards.

The bill will now go to the House. Fernando Bezerra, the government whip in the Senate, said President Jair Bolsonaro will grant funds for the project by way of a provisional decree.
