Marcos Rocha, governor of the northern Brazilian state of Rondônia, announced he has tested positive for the coronavirus. He claims to be asymptomatic and said he will continue working remotely.

Still, the state government said Lieutenant Governor José Jodan is ready to take over on a temporary basis, if necessary.

Mr. Rocha’s infection comes five months after his wife caught the virus. At the time, the governor self-quarantined for 14 days. He now becomes the 19th Brazilian governor to have been contaminated with Covid-19, out of a total of 27.
