Far-right Congresswoman Carla Zambelli — one of President Jair Bolsonaro’s closest supporters in Congress — has tested positive for Covid-19, according to her staff.

Ms. Zambelli is reportedly in self-isolation and will “soon” begin hydroxychloroquine treatment. The antimalarial drug has no proven effect against the coronavirus and was labeled as “useless” by the University of Oxford. Still, President Jair Bolsonaro has praised it as a “possible cure,” and recently said that it could have saved 100,000 lives, which is, of course, false.

Besides Ms. Zambelli, many people in the president’s inner circle have already been infected by the coronavirus, including Jair Bolsonaro himself, First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro, and one-third of the cabinet.
