São Paulo Governor João Doria announced today he has tested positive for the coronavirus. On social media, Mr. Doria said he is asymptomatic and “feeling well.”

The governor will now isolate himself at his home in the upscale São Paulo neighborhood of Jardins. Lieutenant Governor Rodrigo Garcia will take charge of press conferences and public appearances for the time being. “We are all hoping he will remain asymptomatic and that soon he will be back at work,” said Mr. Garcia, in a statement.

Mr. Doria is the 11th Brazilian state governor to have tested positive for the virus, while President Jair Bolsonaro also contracted the disease early in July, having since recovered.
