Business moguls Jorge Paulo Lemann, Alberto Sucupira, and Marcel Telles — three of Brazil’s top 5 richest people, according to Forbes — announced plans for the construction of a Covid-19 vaccine production center, providing tests the foundation is supporting prove to be successful.

The Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) began tests with a potential vaccine developed by Oxford University and drugmaker AstraZeneca, as previously reported by The Brazilian Report. Tests in Brazil are supported by the Lemann Foundation, and its new production center would likely join São Paulo’s Butantan Biological Institute and Rio de Janeiro’s immunobiology lab Bio-Manguinhos in supplying the country with a vaccine.

If the project moves forward, the production center would cost around USD 30 million and would be donated to the federal government.
