São Paulo: At least 35 Covid-19 deaths in nursing homes

At least 35 people have died of Covid-19 in nursing homes in the city of São Paulo, news site G1 reported. Another 14 deaths related to elders — the most at-risk group — are currently under investigation in the state’s care facilities. The local Elderly Prosecution Office is following the situation in 650 nursing homes in the state.

Back in April, this live blog explained that, already out of personal protective equipment, São Paulo’s nursing homes were fearing a spike in the number of Covid-19 deaths. Out of masks, these institutions were relying on hair caps to protect their residents.
