Renato Casagrande, governor of the southeastern state of Espírito Santo, released a statement saying that he has contracted the coronavirus. His wife, Maria Virgínia Casagrande, has also tested positive for Covid-19. Ms. Casagrande was recently hospitalized following a stroke — and began showing flu symptoms after being released.

According to the Health Ministry’s latest coronavirus update, Espírito Santo has 10,007 confirmed cases and 447 deaths so far. The state’s intensive care unit occupancy rate sits at 82 percent.

The Espírito Santo governor is the seventh in Brazil to test positive for Covid-19. Before him, Wilson Witzel (Rio de Janeiro), Paulo Câmara (Pernambuco), Antonio Denarium (Roraima), Camilo Santana (Ceará), Helder Barbalho (Pará), and Renan Filho (Alagoas) were also infected.
