According to new research by pollster Parána Pesquisas, 35 percent of Brazilians believe President Jair Bolsonaro is responsible for Covid-19 deaths. In second place, with 12 percent, are state governors. In third place, with 5.6 percent, is the country’s Supreme Court. The study is based on 2,258 phone interviews carried out between May 15 and 19.

The coronavirus spread remains out of control in Brazil — and on Thursday the country recorded an all-time high 1,188 new deaths and 18,508 infections over 24 hours. Supreme Court Justice Luís Roberto Barroso declared that the country risks a humanitarian crisis — with poverty rates skyrocketing at the same time as the public health crisis worsens.

Earlier today, the World Health Organization declared South America the new Covid-19 epicenter.
