Government starts to pay second installment of emergency aid

State-owned bank Caixa will pay the second installment of the BRL 600 emergency aid for workers starting on May 18. Citizens included in the Bolsa Família program shall be the first in line and, from May 20 on, the money shall be distributed to other citizens registered in the government’s database.

The second of three installments comes as the government faces harsh criticism for delays in greenlighting the emergency payment. On May 15, Caixa finally granted the aid for 8.3 million applicants, but they will only receive their first installment between May 19 and 29.
