A joint operation between the Public Ministry, the Federal Comptroller’s Office, and local police are investigating irregularities involving the construction of a field hospital at the Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasília. The operation, which has already carried out eight search warrants, is looking to recover BRL 79 million (USD 13.55 million). The irregularities are allegedly related to the overpricing of 200 hospital beds at a field hospital set to be inaugurated next week.

Throughout Brazil, irregularities related to measures to combat Covid-19 have come to light in recent days. In Santa Catarina, the local health secretary was fired last week after 200 overpriced ventilators acquired for BRL 33 million were never delivered. On Wednesday, the Rio de Janeiro Police Department uncovered a scheme to defraud the purchase of 1,000 ventilators.
