Armed Forces personnel must return mistaken emergency salary

Roughly 73,000 members of Brazil’s Armed Forces mistakenly received the BRL 600 emergency salary for unemployed and autonomous workers affected by Covid-19, and will now have to return the money, according to the Ministry of Citizenship. According to Exame Magazine, active, inactive, and retired military staff were among those who received the undue benefit, as well as their relatives and dependents.

Those who do not return the money will be included on the federal government’s list of defaulters. The Ministry of Defense, responsible for managing the Armed Forces, says that it will take “all due measures” if they find any sign of illegalities.
