Brazil’s industrial output has fallen 9.1 percent between February and March — the worst result for the month since 2002. According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the poor results were influenced by the shutdown of numerous factories due to social distancing measures. “The pandemic’s impact is evident when we compare the figures to February. It is the biggest drop since May 2018, when Brazil experienced a truckers’ strike,” said André Macedo, director of research at IBGE.
