Play has been stopped in Brazilian football since mid-March, and intensification of the coronavirus outbreak has made a swift return look improbable and irresponsible. However, local federation heads have met with President Jair Bolsonaro to try and orchestrate a return to football in Brazil as soon as May 17.
While some state federations and individual clubs are keen to return — despite health experts warning against it — the provisional date of May 17 is unfeasible for any club.
