The operating capacity of Brazilian industry dropped to 57.5 percent in April, the lowest in the time series measured by think tank Fundação Getulio Vargas since January 2001, as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic. While overall industry is using just over half of its productive capacity, the impact varies among sectors. Car manufacturers have been hit the hardest, using only 12.5 percent of their overall capacity. Other areas, such as apparel and leather goods & shoes are down to 20.5 percent and 24.8 percent respectively. On the other hand, paper and pulp manufacturing is the positive highlight, with 90 percent of its capacity in use.
