Brazilians dive into DIY culture amid Covid-19 pandemic

A report by market intelligence firm Compre&Confie shows that Brazilians have increased purchases of items related to DIY and home improvement on domestic e-commerce websites, from gardening and home maintenance supplies to cosmetics. Among the DIY items that had the biggest spike in sales between February 24 and March 29 — compared to 2019 — were:  

  • Acrylic wall putty: +692 percent
  • Ceiling and wall frames: +570 percent
  • Spackle: +420 percent
  • Plants, flowers, seeds: +623 percent 
  • Gardening tools: +402 percent
  • Hair dye: +426 percent 
  • Nail polish remover: +563 percent

“We believe that people will keep looking for products that bring them some personal satisfaction and help keep them busy during social isolation,” said Compre&Confie’s executive director André Dias in a press statement.
