Quarantine measures could be extended further in the state of São Paulo if social isolation rates do not reach at least 50 percent, said Governor João Doria on Thursday. Yesterday, levels of adhesion to distancing measures sat at 48 percent, below the government’s original goal of 70 percent. On the same day, Mr. Doria announced he is planning to slowly reopen the state’s economy as of May 11. While his government is confident it has managed to flatten the curve, with the number of new confirmed cases rising at around 3 percent each day, the state predicts it will have reached at least 3,200 deaths by May 10.
