The state of São Paulo, home to the largest number of Covid-19 patients and casualties in Brazil, is set to loosen its quarantine measures as of May 11, according to O Globo columnist Lauro Jardim. The plan, created by Finance Secretary Henrique Meirelles and Economic Development Secretary Patrícia Ellen — with inputs from 388 business leaders from industry, trade and service areas, economists, and scientists — would gradually roll back the social isolation measures enforced on March 24. Currently, all non-essential businesses in the state are closed.
On April 17, Governor João Doria decided to extend quarantine measures until May 10, but dismissed the possibility of isolating the city of São Paulo from the rest of the state.
