Prosecutors call out capital for loosening quarantine

Prosecutors in Brasília urged the local government to present studies justifying its decision to reopen non-essential businesses in the capital city. They stated that public health is a constitutional right and called for quarantine measures to be upheld so that a 70-percent isolation rate may be reached.

“In the lack of scientific criteria based on health guidelines and principles to allow activities to open, it will become clear that the Federal District is not reconciling two constitutional values relevant to the case, [the right to] public health and socio-economic development,” read the document.

Last week, The Brazilian Report explained the risks that loosening quarantine could bring to the country.
