More than two months after Covid-19 reached Brazil, the state of Tocantins stood as the only state in the country without a confirmed coronavirus death. That changed on Tuesday, when a civil servant in the health department of state capital Palmas died from the disease. She was 47 years old and had been placed in intensive care on March 18.

As of Tuesday, Tocantins — the fourth-least populated Brazilian state — had 28 Covid-19 cases.
