Bolsonaro disregards court order and keeps churches open

On March 31, a federal judge in Brasilia ordered the federal government to withdraw its permission for religious activities to take place during the Covid-19 pandemic. Churches were originally allowed to be held thanks to a presidential decree issued at the beginning of the pandemic, identifying which services should be deemed “essential” and thus allowed to remain open.

So far, President Jair Bolsonaro has not complied with the decision nor lodged an appeal.
