The Federal Revenue Service announced it will pardon those who did not vote in past elections so that they can qualify for the emergency salary proposed by the federal government. In Brazil, voting is mandatory, and those who do not exercise their civic duty are blocked from exercising a series of rights, such as applying for a passport or taking government jobs.

As of today, the department has begun updating the situation of those who have had their social security numbers suspended for neglecting to vote. The process is expected to be completed by April 10.
