⚠️ UPDATE: Over 12,000 Covid-19 cases in Brazil

new cases hospitals Update: 1,128 confirmed Covid-19 infections, 18 deaths

According to Brazil’s Health Ministry’s Covid-19 update, confirmed infections now amount to 12,056. So far, 553 people have been killed by the novel coronavirus — Acre and Tocantins are the only states with no casualties, so far.

Authorities have said that the infection curve would have been much steeper if it weren’t for social isolation. President Jair Bolsonaro, however, believes that Brazilians should go about their business as usual, saying multiple times that “Brazil can’t stop,” and sharing on social media pleads from voters asking him to revoke quarantine rules. Mr. Bolsonaro’s approach has antagonized him with his own Health minister, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, who is himself in favor of restrictive measures being adopted by governors (São Paulo announced today a 15-day extension). Newspaper O Globo reported that Mr. Mandetta will be fired today.

But a Datafolha poll shows that 76 percent of Brazilians support isolation policies.
