Sixty-plus citizens account for 89 percent of Brazil’s fatal Covid-19 victims, according to news website Poder360. At least 82 percent of victims were part of high-risk groups — many of whom had pre-existing conditions. In the U.S., the country with most registered cases in the world, at least 80 percent of the victims are over 65. In both Italy and Spain, around 90 percent of deaths were of people over 90 years old. In order to avoid a European-like death toll, some Brazilian cities have restricted the movement of elderly citizens.
