Supreme Court Justice Alexandre Moraes gave President Jair Bolsonaro 48 hours to give detailed information on the government’s anti-Covid-19 measures.

The Supreme Court ruling came after the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) filed a lawsuit in an attempt to force the government to comply with World Health Organization guidelines. The OAB also urged for the implementation of a stimulus plan to help the unemployed, as well as informal workers — and called for the political independence of the Health Ministry. In the petition, bar association president Felipe Santa Cruz said the federal government’s handling of the situation is “reckless and irresponsible.”

On Tuesday, Mr. Bolsonaro delivered a televised speech saying that he wants to “save lives, without leaving jobs behind.” However, as our April 2 Daily Briefing shows, relief packages have stalled in Brasília, as the government and Congress can’t agree on how to enact them.
