Medical research Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, known as Friocruz, announced it will be responsible for coordinating the World Health Organization “Solidarity” clinical study in Brazil. The prominent biomedical institution will lead tests concerning new treatments against Covid-19, including patients that have already been hospitalized.
Among the drugs — to be tested on at least 1,200 patients — Fiocruz listed hydroxychloroquine, which President Jair Bolsonaro believes to be a potential cure for the virus, despite a lack of evidence. The research will cost BRL 4 million, funded by the Health Ministry.
