President’s bodyguard hospitalized with Covid-19

One of President Jair Bolsonaro’s bodyguards has been taken into hospital with a severe case of Covid-19. Military Police Captain Ari Celso Rocha Barros was quarantined at his home, but his condition worsened.

Though Mr. Barros was not in the presidential entourage that accompanied Mr. Bolsonaro to Miami two weeks ago, he is another case of a person close to the president being infected with the coronavirus. Addressing the nation on Tuesday night, Mr. Bolsonaro said that his “past as an athlete” would keep him from feeling any effects of the coronavirus, despite being considered at risk due to his age.

Mr. Bolsonaro claims to have tested negative for the virus, but refuses to disclose his test results despite public pressure.
