Paulo Pimenta, the Lula administration’s press secretary, declared this morning that pro-Bolsonaro rioters swiped hard drives, documents, and weapons from offices within the Planalto Palace, which houses the president’s office.
Scores of putschist rioters stormed the palace on Sunday afternoon, shortly after another group invaded the Congress building and Supreme Court headquarters. All three buildings were left severely damaged due to widespread vandalism.
“Some of the people [who stormed the palace] knew what they were doing,” Mr. Pimenta told reporters this morning. “While the horde destroyed everything, others acted intelligently, taking hard drives, guns, and documents.”
Echoing the sentiment of his boss, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and other Brazilian authorities, Mr. Pimenta assured that the police would identify and punish all of those responsible for the riot.
He added that there were significant amounts of “blood, feces, and urine” left in the presidential palace, which he said would be collected and tested to help identify the perpetrators.
