FIFA’s disciplinary committee rejected Chile’s appeal against Ecuador’s inclusion of right-back Byron Castillo in the qualifying rounds for the Qatar 2022 football World Cup.

Chile was hoping that by proving that Moreno is not actually Ecuadorian but born instead in Colombia, it could end up with a spot in the tournament, and has promised to appeal the ruling.

The decision means that Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Ecuador are the four qualified teams representing South America, with Peru a possible fifth depending on whether it beats Australia for a final spot in the tournament.

Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. qualified for North and Central America. Costa Rica could also sneak in if it beats New Zealand.
