Political changes continued in Peru on Tuesday after Police Chief Vicente Tiburcio was replaced by Luis Alberto Vera at the head of the institution. The news came hours after the Pedro Castillo administration confirmed a large cabinet restructuring that included new nominees for the Interior, Agriculture, Mining, and Transport portfolios.
After only 10 months in office, Mr. Castillo has already seen 50 different officials occupy leading cabinet positions, including four Cabinet Chiefs and five Interior Ministers. The left-wing Peruvian president has been struggling with a quick loss of popularity, two impeachment attempts in Congress, and divisions within his own ruling coalition.
