In bid for raises, Feds could stop registering new weapons

In their latest push to pressure the Jair Bolsonaro into granting them hefty wage increases, Federal Police marshals are expected to put a halt to the country’s weapons registry, making it impossible to register new firearms.

Since taking office, President Jair Bolsonaro has loosened gun ownership rules. Per the Institute of Applied Economic Research, over 30 pieces of legislation have been issued in that direction during the current government — which resulted in new gun registrations skyrocketing in recent years.

In a statement, the association of Federal Police chiefs said it will “remain mobilized to urge the president to keep his word.”Late last year, Mr. Bolsonaro promised to significantly raise the wages of federal law enforcement officers.

His push, however, led multiple groups of federal civil servants to ask for the same treatment — and now workers from multiple agencies are on strike. The latest to announce such a move were civil servants within the Treasury Department.
