Always keen to match its big global rival McDonald’s, fast-food chain Burger King came under fire for ‘misleading advertising’ in Brazil this week, just days after McDonald’s was obliged to pull its McPicanha sandwich from restaurants nationwide.

Burger King’s Whopper Costela (or Rib Whopper) was the next target of online consumer defense vigilantes, with one social media account revealing that the sandwich contains no pork rib whatsoever.

The burger chain said it has “always been clear” about the ingredients of the sandwich, pointing to its Brazilian website, which describes the Whopper Costela as being made with “a pork burger with that unmistakable aroma of ribs.”
