Roughly 12 million Brazilians remain out of a job, according to the latest data by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. For the second consecutive month, the rate has sat at 11.2 percent, persisting in the double digits since February 2016.
The average income per worker has ticked up in 2022, to BRL 2,511 (USD 529) per month – still below the July 2020 peak. The rate of informal labor crept down from 40.6 to 40.2 percent of the employed population.
