Federal employees took to the streets in Brasília on Wednesday to protest for wage increases. The demonstration represented an ultimatum to the Jair Bolsonaro administration, as the workers have threatened to strike on March 23.

Civil servants demand wage increases in line with inflation since Mr. Bolsonaro took office, which would represent a pay increase of around 20 percent.

Dissatisfaction among civil servants spread after Mr. Bolsonaro said he would only give raises to federal police officers in 2022. Faced with pressure from other professions, the government has not yet confirmed wage increases for the police.
