A survey by the Brazilian Doctors’ Association (AMB) suggests that 87.3 percent of Brazilian doctors contracted the coronavirus in the past couple of months. The staggering figures come as Brazil continues to break new records for daily cases — which on Thursday neared the 300,000 mark. Omicron infections are driving ICU occupancy rates to critical levels in at least eight of Brazil’s 27 states.

Per the AMB survey, doctors are growing more anxious (43%), burned out (51%), and apprehensive about the evolution of the pandemic in Brazil (52%). Almost half said staff shortages were the biggest challenge they expect as hospitalizations increase once more.
