Members of the Technical Chamber for Immunization Advice (Ctai), under the umbrella of Brazil’s Health Ministry, will begin debates this week on whether to offer fourth Covid-19 vaccine doses to senior citizens and health professionals.
Second booster shots are already being distributed in Chile and Israel, while countries such as Germany and the U.S. are also analyzing the possibility amid a spike in Omicron cases. Studies on the need for fourth doses are not yet conclusive.
Since December, the Health Ministry has recommended fourth doses for immunosuppressed individuals, to be administered four months after their original booster shot. Experts believe the matter will begin to gain importance in March, six months after the country begin distributing third vaccine doses to senior citizens.
