The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) ruled that all players must be fully vaccinated in order to take part in official tournaments during the 2022 season — which is set to begin next week. Proof of vaccination will be required to register players in matchday squads.

There were no such requirements in place last season, and in October, newspaper O Globo found that two of the 20 top-flight Brazilian clubs still had unvaccinated players.

Last week, left-back Renan Lodi missed out on his place in the Brazilian national team squad as he is not fully vaccinated against Covid-19. The defender plays his club football for Atletico Madrid, in Spain.
