Jair Bolsonaro’s doctors have confirmed the president is suffering from an intestinal obstruction, after he was hospitalized in São Paulo this morning. The Brazilian head of state arrived at the Vila Nova Star Hospital at roughly 2 am this morning, after spending the New Year’s holiday with his family on the coast of Santa Catarina state.

The intestinal obstruction is yet another complication related to the stab wounds the president suffered in September 2018, while on the campaign trail. Since then, Mr. Bolsonaro has undergone six surgeries — four of which being directly connected to his intestinal injuries.

On his official Twitter account, Mr. Bolsonaro said later exams will determine whether a new medical procedure will be necessary.
