Speaking during a panel organized by Brazilian industry and agriculture representatives at the UN Climate Summit (COP26) in Glasgow, Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco said the country needs to “take responsibility for illegal deforestation in its territory.”

“Our biggest problem is the illegal deforestation that alarms the world and builds a consistent and strong narrative about Brazil, hurting our international image,” he said. “Let’s be honest, we’ve got to admit our mistakes.”

Mr. Pacheco began his participation at COP26 yesterday. The Senate President argued that developed nations should invest in sustainable development projects in developing countries such as Brazil, to provide them with the means for protecting their forests.
