Following a reception in honor of President Jair Bolsonaro thrown by Brazil’s UN representative in New York City’s Upper East Side — the Brazilian delegation was met by protesters calling the head of state a “murderer” and “genocidal.” Some of Mr. Bolsonaro’s guests responded to the protesters before getting into the vehicles, gesturing with their hands and tapping on the windows as one of the cars drove away. Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga went the extra mile in defending his boss — he got up from his seat in order to show protesters his middle finger.

The obscene gesture from the Health Minister comes hours before the president is expected to deliver his UN General Assembly speech — diplomats have pleaded with Mr. Bolsonaro to adopt a moderate tone.
