SoftBank to double down on Latin America

Investment behemoth SoftBank pledged to invest USD 3 billion in Latin America by way of its second dedicated private investment fund focused on technology companies in the region.

The move comes after the USD 5 billion SoftBank Latin America Fund grew to become the group’s highest in terms of return on investment. Since it was launched in 2019, the fund redefined the venture capital landscape in Brazil and neighboring countries by injecting unprecedented liquidity into the Latin American tech ecosystem.

The fund invested in 48 companies, including 15 of the region’s 25 unicorns — household names such as Brazilian startups Gympass and Quinto Andar, and Colombian superapp Rappi.
