Chile to vaccine kids with CoronaVac

The second-highest vaccinated country in Latin America, Chile is ready to dip into its last-remaining age groups who are yet to receive a Covid-19 jab, after the China-manufactured CoronaVac vaccine received authorization to be used on children 6 years and older.

Five out of six experts from Chile’s Public Health Institute voted to approve the immunizer, which makes the country the first in Latin America to begin giving jabs to children under 12. Seventy-six percent of Chileans have already received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, while 73 percent are already fully vaccinated. Only Uruguay performs slightly better in the region.

Authorities said the campaign to vaccinate Chile’s 6-to-12-year-olds would start in September by way of the country’s school system, while those aged between 13 and 17 will continue receiving jabs.
