Rio will demand proof of vaccination for closed spaces

As of September 1, citizens in Rio de Janeiro city will be required to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination to enter establishments such as movie theaters, gyms, and museums. The measure will not be mandatory for bars and restaurants. 

According to two decrees published this Friday, businesses will be responsible for controlling the entry of citizens and verifying their vaccination documents. Paper vaccination cards or digital certification may be used.

Vaccination proof is also likely to be mandatory for elective surgeries in both public and private hospitals, and for beneficiaries of the income transfer program Cartão Família Carioca. 

“Obviously, our goal is to protect people who believe in science, are getting vaccinated, and attend these environments. But we also want to get people vaccinated. It is not conceivable that people who think they will protect themselves without the immunizer believe that they will have a normal life. They won’t,” declared Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes.
