Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga announced that Brazil will receive a batch of 2 million AstraZeneca vaccines on Friday, by way of the UN-backed Covax Facility.
The shipment will be added to the 137 million doses already given out by the country’s vaccination program — 39 million people have been fully immunized so far. Mr. Queiroga also confirmed that Brazil is set to greenlight a study conducted by the University of Oxford to evaluate the necessity of a third vaccine shot for people vaccinated with Sinovac’s CoronaVac. According to the minister, the research “will also analyze the results of extra doses using all vaccines currently available in Brazil.”
