The Brazilian Supreme Court told the Health Ministry to analyze the possible inclusion of teenagers aged between 12 and 18 on the national coronavirus immunization program.
The ruling was issued by Justice Gilmar Mendes, in response to a lawsuit filed by the municipality of Belo Horizonte, challenging a state court decision ordering the vaccination of a teenager with respiratory problems.
Justice Mendes recognized the urgency of treating the coronavirus and a recent decision by health regulator Anvisa to authorize the use of Pfizer vaccines on people aged 12 and over. He said the government’s vaccination plan has an “apparent gap” when it comes to teenagers.
