Months after health collapse, Manaus vaccinates 25-year-olds

Amazon state capital Manaus kicked off the vaccination of residents over 25 years old on Monday, making it one of the Brazilian state capitals with the lowest age ranges currently receiving immunizations. São Paulo, for instance, is still vaccinating people over 40 years of age.

Once a coronavirus hotbed suffering two complete health system collapses, Manaus is now seeing a downward trend to its Covid-19 numbers, with cases and deaths far below the peaks registered in January. Manaus’ vaccine figures show that the city has administered over 1.2 million vaccine doses so far, to its total population of 2.2 million. Roughly 314,000 people are fully immunized.
