Industry grows 1.4 percent in May after three successive slumps

Brazil’s industrial output grew 1.4 percent between April and May, according to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). These latest results put an end to three consecutive negative months for the sector, with a 4.7-percent drop accumulated in February, March and April.

May’s results also indicate that industrial production is returning to pre-pandemic levels. According to the Industrial Entrepreneur Confidence Index (ICEI), June was the second consecutive month of significant confidence gains among all the country’s industrial segments. The numbers were analyzed by Brazil’s National Industry Confederation (CNI).
