The Jair Bolsonaro administration will suspend its USD 300 million deal to purchase 20 million doses of India’s Covaxin vaccine. “It is no longer convenient,” Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga told CNN Brasil.

Last Friday, a congressman and a Health Ministry official said they had told President Jair Bolsonaro that the latter was coerced into greenlighting the Covaxin deal, which the president allegedly described as being “monkey business” from his House whip, Congressman Ricardo Barros. The whip has multiple links to health companies suspected of corruption.

A group of senators submitted a request to investigate President Jair Bolsonaro for misconduct — as he allegedly failed to act when informed about said irregularities.
