Senator José Serra was admitted to Sírio Libanês Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 on June 22. According to reports, the 79-year-old lawmaker is asymptomatic and he is being hospitalized out of precaution for his unvaccinated family members. Former Health Minister and São Paulo Governor, Mr. Serra has received two shots of coronavirus vaccines. He is the latest in a line of Brazilian congressmen to be infected; earlier this year, three senators — Major Olímpio, Arolde de Oliveira, and José Maranhão passed away due to Covid-19 complications.
